NSC seeks ANFA clarification on match-fixing

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday demanded clarification from All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on match fixing scandal as well as on over-aged players of Nepali U-16 national team. The NSC has directed ANFA to submit clarification within seven days.

A statement issued by NSC, the sports governing body, has sought reports along with views of the association regarding national footballers' involvement in match-fixing. National team skipper Sagar Thapa, defender Sandeep Rai, goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa, former players Bikash Singh Chhetri and Anjan KC were arrested by Nepal Police for their alleged involvement in fixing Nepal's international matches under the financial influence of bookies based in Singapore and Malaysia. All the five accused are currently in judicial custody for investigations.Similarly, NSC also directed ANFA to submit the investigation reports on the issue of fielding over-aged players in the AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers recently held in Kyrgyzstan.

Nepal, which had been selected for next year's finals to be held in India, was later disqualified from the event by Asian Football Confederation and ANFA was also fined $ 14,500.
