KATHMANDU, Feb 21: In view of persisting dispute over leadership of Nepal Boxing Association (NBA), National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday formed a three-member committee to conduct boxing matches during the Sixth National Games, which will begin on Sunday.

The committee headed by former chief coach Suresh Sing Ale is assigned to do all necessary arrangements for the boxing matches in the national games. [break]

Chief coach Prachanda Sharma and assistant chief coach Om Maskey are the other members of the committee.

"We got the letter issued by NSC today (Tuesday), which says we are nominated to conduct boxing matches in the games," chief coach Sharma told Republica.

Currently, two boxing associations -- headed by Rajiv Shrestha and Rabiraj Thapa -- claim themselves to be authentic. Shrestha claims he was elected by third general assembly of the association as president of NBA on Saturday.

Thapa, who had walked out of the general assembly on Saturday, claimed himself to be the real president of NBA. Thapa also claimed the election held on Saturday was illegal.

Altogether, 138 pugilists will participate in the final stage of boxing in the national games from eight teams including five regional and three departmental -- Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and PLA Sports Club. Among them, 68 are men and 70 are women players.
