NPU assembly tense

ITAHARI, March 22: The arrest of the representatives boycotting the seventh General Assembly of Nepal Press Union on Tuesday ensued tension in Itahari.



Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala earlier inaugurated the general assembly. NPU is a sister organization of NC.[break]



Police apprehended Khila Karki, the former secretary of Kathmandu district and Maheshwor Gautam who shouted slogans to boycott assembly.



Around a hundred and fifty journalists protested the arrest and staged a sit-in.



Sunsari’s Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya apologized for the police action.
