Novice Cup boxing kicks off

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: First Novice Cup Nation-wide Men´s Boxing Championship kicked off at the covered hall of National Sports Council on Wednesday.



In the first day´s match, Aman Tamang of Meghdut, Sanju Pun of Dang, Santosh Rajbhak and Anup Maharjan of Bosigaun, Som Lama of Makawanpur, Chirinjivi Rana of Nawalparasi emerged victorious in 42 -44 kg category. [break]



Amar Thapa of Bajura, Sandip Tamang and Rajesh Hemran of Jhapa, Akhil Rana Magar of Meghdut, Kiran BK of Nawalparasi, Manoj Gautam of Makawanpur, Bikash Rai of Naxal, Kathmandu and Suman Bati of Bhaktapur won their bout in 44-46kg category.



The players to advance into second round of 46-48 kg are Wilson Maharjan from Bosigaun, Umesh Chaudhary of Naxal, Santosh Rai of Sunsari, Amar Buda Magar of Rolpa, Amrit BK of Nawalparasi, Amit Kuikel of Surkhet and Hem Kumar Rai of Udaypur.



Suman Tudu, Sanjay Bhujel, Bishal Karki, Susan Manandhar, Rajan Maharjan and Narayan Bhujel made it to the second round of 48-50 kg category. Likewise, Nirmal Ijam, Sagar Kumal and Deepak Magar secured berth for second round in the 50-52 kg section.



The players will vie for total of 18 golds in the tournament being organized by Nepal Boxing Association. Altogether 231 players including 109 in 15 to 18 years age group and 122 in 18 to 25 years age group will compete in the event.
