NOC loan reaches Rs 27.8b

KATHMANDU, Jan. 10: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC)´s loan has reached Rs. 27.5 billion including the loan taken from the government and various other organizations. The NOC had borrowed this amount for importing petroleum products.



The NOC has called on the government to take special initiatives to clear the loan that was taken to make up for the losses that the corporation incurred while importing petroleum products from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).[break]



Speaking at a program organized to mark the 43rd anniversary of NOC here today, NOC Executive Director, Suresh Kumar Agrawal said it has been a challenge to the corporation to clear the loan.



He said the NOC would take the organization ahead as a competitive institution only if the government supported it to clear its outstanding loans.



Agrawal said that the working procedures related to the subsidies to be provided on LP gas has been submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval, adding, "It would be a relief to consumers of gas sold for household purpose if it is approved."



On the occasion, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dipendra Bahadur Kshetri, released "Prabhat", the anniversary publication of the NOC.



He stressed that NOC should make itself professional and competent.



Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Lalmani Ghimire, said that NOC should be capable of supplying the petroleum products to the public in an accessible manner.



Ghimire added that the government will provide necessary support for the same.
