“Altogether 11,240 have deserted during the conflict and they have been demanding reinstatement, but we are not in favor of reinstating a single person,” said Oli, while speaking at a meeting of the National Interest Preservation Committee in the Constituent Assembly.
He said the matter of reinstatement was also taken up last year by the then interim parliament, but lawmakers had supported the APF´s stance at that time.
Those who deserted during the armed insurgency have been in the street for more than a year demanding reinstatement in the service . They claim they were forced to quit the job because of Maoists´ blackmailing and tremendous pressure from their family members.
The APF now has a 25,000-strong force deployed for controlling armed rebelling, violence, smuggling control, border security and security of important public infrastructures, among others.
