In an interaction with the stakeholders, NHRC Chairperson Anup Raj Sharma urged both the agitating parties and the government to guarantee child rights and the right to education of the children.
Sharma also urged the agitating groups not to use minors in their protests.
Sharma said to a delegation who had reached to the commission to raise concern over the indefinite closure affecting over 2 million students in over 20 districts.
The group with a representative from PABSON, NPABSON, HISSAN, Guardian Association of Nepal and the Teacher's Federation also urged the NHRC to mediate between the agitating parties and the government for the resumption of school by implementing the earlier commitment of the parties to treat the schools and colleges as the zone of peace.
Following the request from stakeholders, the commission has called for a follow up meeting with the officials of the Department of Education (DoE), Ministry of Education on Monday, said NPABSON Chairperson Karna Bahadur Shahi who led the delegation.
The DoE's order issued a week ago directing its regional directorates to initiate steps for resuming schools and colleges has largely gone unheeded.
The government and political parties had jointly declared academic sector as zone of peace in the past, with parties agreeing not to obstruct functioning of schools and colleges even during their protests.
