New US envoy arrives

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The US ambassador-designate to Nepal, Peter W. Bodde, arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday.



Bodde is scheduled to present his credentials to President Ram Baran Yadav on Monday, according to a statement issued by US Embassy in Kathmandu. [break]Bodde was appointed as US envoy to Nepal after Obama administration named outgoing envoy Scott H. DeLisi as new US envoy to Uganda.



Before coming to Nepal, Bodde served as the Assistant Chief of Mission for Assistance Transition, U.S. Embassy Baghdad. He served as the US ambassador to Malawi from 2008 to 2010. Prior to that assignment, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Islamabad from 2006 to 2008.



Joined in the Foreign Service in 1981, Ambassador Bodde also served in Kathmandu mission twice (most recently as Deputy Chief of Mission from 1994-1997 and as Attaché from 1982-1984). Among others, he served in US missions in Germany, Bulgaria, Denmark and India, where he was the Minister Counselor for Administrative Affairs.



Bodde also served in various positions in the State Department in Washington, DC, most recently as the Director of the Office of Management Policy. He speaks fluent Nepali and also knows German and Bulgarian. He is married to Tanya Lee Will and has two children.
