According to Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy Durga Bahadur Subedi, the evacuated Nepalis will arrive in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, by Wednesday midnight.[break]
The explosion that took place at the fourth reactor of at Phukusima Atomic Plant (Center 1) on Tuesday morning has been generating 400 millisieverts radiation per hour. The radiation could pose serious risk to the health of the people in living in the vicinity.
Likewise, the embassy has evacuated another 52 Nepalis affected by earthquake and subsequent Tsunami in Sendai area and brought to Tokyo. “We plan to keep the evacuated Nepalis in temporary shelters for the time being,” said Subedi.
Subedi said some students living in the Sendai area are learnt to have already left the place as the embassy had to wait for two days to get permission from Japan´s foreign ministry to reach there for rescue efforts.
According to a press statement issued by the embassy, a meeting of Earthquake and Tsunami Affected Nepalis Support Committee held under the chair of Nepali ambassador to Japan Dr Ganesh Yonjan on Tuesday evening formed various four sub-committees -- Emergency Rescue Fund Sub-Committee, Rescue and Volunteer Sub-Committee, Lodging and Food Sub-Committee and Communication Sub-Committee -- to provide help for earthquake and Tsunami affected Nepalis in Japan. A total of 1.62 million yen was voluntarily donated to Emergency Rescue Fund by various Nepalis during the meeting.
Meanwhile, a 15-member rescue team comprising army and police personnel scheduled to fly for Japan on Wednesday was stopped at the request of Japan. “Japanese embassy in Kathmandu has asked us to put the plan on hold for some time,” said the prime minister´s foreign relations advisor Milan Tuladhar. “We will send the rescue team immediately after we get a nod from Japan.”
Japan publicizes bank accounts for donations
Government of Japan has made bank accounts public for those interested to make donations for the rescue and reconstruction efforts after the recent earthquake and tsunami devastated Northeast Japan.
According to a press statement issued by Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu, two separate bank accounts have been unveiled for those wishing to make donations in US dollars and those wishing to make donations in Nepali currency. People interested to deliver cash can visit directly to Nepal Red Cross Office at Kalimati.
