DARJEELING, April 1: Leaders representing Nepali speaking community in Darjeeling are gearing up for the election of state legislative assembly to be held on April 18.

The election is expected to show the strength of Nepali speaking population in Darjeeling. [break]

Following the downfall of Gorkha Rastriya Mukti Morcha led by Subash Ghising more than a year ago, state assembly is going to be held first the first time.

Gorkha Janamukti Morcha that has been demanding a separate Gorkhaland in Darjeeling and two other parties Gorkha Rastriya Mukti Morcha and Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha league are also contesting in the election.

Another party representing Nepali speaking community, Krantikari Marxbadi Communist Party, has, however, decided to boycott the assembly election.

The party has termed the assembly election as a "drama."

Attempts to choose common candidates among contesting parties failed due to the uncompromising stance of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh.

Parties had hold discussions several times to elect common candidates.
