Nepali rescued in China

BEIJING, June 15: A Nepali national who had overstayed the visa as he was stranded after falling ill in the southern Chinese city Guangzhou is being sent back to Nepal after 12 days.



Suraj Karki from Pokhara is being sent back to Nepal tonight through the joint initiatives of the Embassy of Nepal and the Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association (NRNA), China.[break]



Karki who had gone to Japan two years back for study was mentally ill after the occurrence of the tsunami there two months back.



He had flown for Kathmandu from Nagoya, Japan after he was unable to carry on his studies and work due to his ill health. He was scheduled to travel to Kathmandu via Shanghai and Guangzhou, China.



He reached Shanghai on June 3, the day he flew out of Japan. He was given 24 hours’ duration visa by the Chinese immigration there and was allowed to catch a plane to Guangzhou.



He was stranded at the Guangzhou airport on expiry of his visa term.
