Speaking at an interaction organized by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) in the capital on Friday, the newly appointed ambassadors said they would help Nepal´s industrial and economic growth through economic diplomacy. [break]
Rudra Kumar Nepal, ambassador to Australia said he would try his best to increase Nepal´s export to Australia from the existing Rs 4 million through economic diplomacy. The total trade between these two countries is estimated at around Rs 16 million. “There is also a huge potential in tourism but the current number of Australians visiting Nepali is negligible,” he said.
Ambassador to Russia, Rabi Mohan Sapkota said that Russia was interested to develop hydropower projects with total capacity of producing 23,000 MW.
“Informal talks on this have begun and we could make it happen if we created proper environment for investment,” he said adding that Nepal has enough resources and the only requirement was creation of favorable environment for the mobilization of the resource.
Similarly, Ram Mani Paudel, ambassador to Belgium stressed on the need to focus on hydro power, agriculture and forest resources. He said he would work to create environment so Nepal can export agricultural products including fruits and cereals to Belgium.
Pralhad Prasain, ambassador to Israel said he would work on promoting tourism and creating more employment opportunities for Nepali migrant workers.
Likewise, Bharat Paudel ambassador to Pakistan and Parash Ghimire ambassador to Myanmar also focused on the need to increase export for economic prosperity of the country.
CNI Vice-President Narendra Kumar Basnet requested the ambassadors to act as a bridge between respective countries and Nepal. “Nepalis workers and entrepreneurs are facing a lot of difficulties due to lack of a contact person,” he said expressing the hope that ambassadors will help resolve issues related to workers and traders through diplomatic channel.
