KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Nepal registered third straight win in the ICC World Cricket League Division Four tournament, defeating Malaysia by 10 wickets at the Selangor Turf Club ground, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday.
Nepal easily chased down a target of 70 without losing any wickets in just 12.2 overs. Openers Anil Mandal’s cracking 41 off 40 balls and Subash Khakurel’s 24 off 48 balls guided Nepal a comfortable victory in the low-scoring match. [Break]
Earlier, having been sent in to field first, Nepali bowlers gave a brilliant performance dismissing Malaysia for just 69 runs in 32.1 overs. Wickets fell at regular intervals with all rounder Shakti Gauchan taking three wickets conceding just 2 runs in his 10 overs. Basanta Regmi took three wickets for 12 runs in 8.1 overs.
Amrit Bhattarai bagged two wickets while Binod Das and Sanjam Regmee grabbed a wicket each.
Shafiq Sharif top scored for Malaysia with 22 off 26 balls. Only three Malaysian batsmen including Sharif could manage to score double figures.
Earlier, Nepal had defeated Singapore and Tanzania in its first and second matches. Today’s win has taken Nepal closer to a place in the Division 3. Nepal will next play the USA on Friday.
