Forward Sujal Shrestha netted the last two goals after skipper Barat Khawas had given early lead to Nepal. Jagjeet Shrestha, who supplied passes for last two goals, was also on target for the home team backed by local supporters during the match played under the floodlights.[break]
Nepali team looked dominant against the South Asian neighbor and missed an early scoring chance before Khawas opened scoring in the fifth minute with a superb header. Khawas jumping header from the six-yard box in a freekick taken by Anil Ojha delighted home supporters.
Despite some more chances, Nepal failed to doubled advantage in the first half and conceded equalizer with an own goal four minutes into second half. Nepali defender Deepak Bhusal headed into his own goal in his bid to clear Rayhan throw.
Jagjeet tapped in Amir Shrestha´s cross in the 61st minute, a minute after his arrival in the field as Anil Ojha´s replacement. In the 66th minute, Sujal´s low ball header entered net in a cross supplied by Jagjeet. Sujal sealed the victory in the fading moments of three minutes stoppage time.
Nepal´s coach Kirshna Thapa expressed satisfaction over his team´s performance. "The boys played as expected. We failed to convert some sure chances. If Jagjeet had not missed early scoring chances we could have won by a larger goal margin", Thapa said adding, "We were under pressure after conceding equalizer. But the performance improved after we restored the lead. Though there is no monsoon we made shower of goals."
Nepal could have scored two within five minutes. In the third minute, Rupesh KC and Sujal both failed to connect captain Khawas´ cross in front of goal.
Again in the 43rd minute, Nepal failed to double the advantage as Jagjeet tapped inches wide.
Bangladeshi player could not mount any significant threat to Nepali goalie Bishal Shrestha. But Bangladeshi coach Syed Golam Jilani lamented the absence of a couple of his key player. "We came to know yesterday evening that two of our vital players were not included in the list. They were supposed to be included in the starting line up, but their absence became setback for the team," Jilani said pointing that his defense line up failed to play upto standard.
Nepal´s skipper Khawas thanked his teammates, coaches and supporters after the victory. "I am happy to achieve victory in my first responsibility as captain. We will amend the mistakes we made today in the next match," Khawas said.
Nepal will take on Yemen in next match on Sunday.
Jordan thumps Yemen
In the curtain raiser, 10-man Jordan thumped Yemen 4-0. Skipper Hamza Al Dardour put the team ahead in the 28th minute beating a defender and goalie. But the skipper and Jordan international was sent off in the 41st minute for a foul on Ebrahim Gehaman.
Hahmoud Zatara doubled the tally in the 35th with a brilliant header in Zahran´s cross. Musab Allahham made it 3-0 in the 81st and Khalil Zaid Kh Baniateyah sealed the victory two minutes later.
