Human Resources Department of South Korea awarded Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), recognizing its role in significantly reducing sending period of workers to Korea after the labor contracts were signed between the two countries and for forging meaningful coordination with HRD Korea while recruiting Nepali workers.
Jeongho Ko, director general of HRD Korea-Nepal office, handed over the trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 to Mohan Krishna Sapkota, director general of DoFE, on behalf of the Korean government on Wednesday.
“Employers in Korea are happy to receive workers from Nepal in a relatively shorter period of time than other countries as recruitment of workers on time is very important for them,” said Jeongho Ko, after handing over the award. He also added that the Korean government has highly appreciated proper coordination between HRD Korea and EPS Nepal.

Nepal has successfully reduced the duration of sending process to 57 days from 92 last year.
“Chances of Nepal getting more quotas have become high with this recognition,” he added. He, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the trend of Nepali workers shifting to other sectors from the fishery sector for which they originally sign the contract.
Under the EPS, Nepal can send workers to Korea in five sectors -- agriculture, fishery, construction, manufacturing and service.
Speaking on the occasion, Baburam Acharya, secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management, said the recognition would help enhance Nepal´s position among Korean employers and help get more quotas. “We will request the Korean government to increase job quotas to Nepali workers,” he added.
Of the total 6586 workers listed in HRD Korea´s job roster, 4159 have signed labor contracts and 3,623 of them have already left for Korea.
Nepal has rose to the number one position among Korea´s source destination under EPS from last year´s 13th position. Along with Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan and East Timor also send workers to Korea.
