Nepal drawn in 'group of death'

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Nepal has been drawn in the ´group of death´ in the SAFF Championship to be held from December 2-11 in New Delhi, India. Nepal has been pitted in Group B along with the Maldives, Bangladesh and Pakistan.



Similarly, Group A comprises the host India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bhutan.The draws for the tournament were made in New Delhi on Wednesday.[break]



Nepal will start its SAFF campaign taking on the Maldives on December 2. It will play against Bangladesh, the runner-up of the last edition, on December 4 and will face Pakistan in its last group mach on December 6. The top two teams from each group will make it through to the semifinals.



Nepal has started preparations for the SAFF Championship a couple of months ago. The best result Nepal ever achieved in the SAFF was during the Goa SAFF in 1999. On the occasion, Nepal had lost in the semifinal.



In the last edition held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Nepal had crashed out from the group stage. Nepal had defeated Afghanistan 3-0, played a 1-1 draw with Maldives and lost 1-0 to India.
