KATHMANDU, March 23: Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) has suspended its entire program including the regional selection tournament of the 5th National Sports as a protest against the illegal arrest of its president Lama Tendi Sherpa. [break]

Sherpa was arrested from near Tri Chandra Campus on the eve of the Free Student Union Election (FSU) on 15 March. Sherpa is also a former FSU president of Tri Chandra College.

Organizing a press conference in the capital Monday, general secretary of the Association Mahendra Man Shakya condemned the arrest as illegal and also demanded Sherpa’s prompt release.

Shakya said that Sherpa’s arrest was premeditated and without an arrest warrant, and he has been kept in custody without any charge. He further added, “If he had committed a crime he should be punished but according to the law”.
