Speaking in parliament, deputy parliamentary party leader of Nepali Congress Prakashman Singh said, “Prime Minister Khanal had signed the five-point agreement admitting the fact that the government had failed to make progress in the peace process and constitution writing. So, he must step down.”
Earlier, a meeting of the central working committee (CWC) held at the party headquarters in Sanepa had directed the NC parliamentary party to strongly present itself in parliament for the implementation of the five-point deal.
An emergency meeting of NC parliamentary party decided to obstruct parliament on Tuesday. “We have taken this stance to bail the country out of the current chaos,” NC Spokesperson Nabindra Raj Joshi told Republica.
“The five-point deal has not been implemented even two months after the agreement. So, NC would continue to obstruct parliament until the prime minister resigns,” said NC parliamentary party leader Ramchandra Paudel.
The NC CWC meeting had concluded that reshuffling of the cabinet as requested by the Maoists would violate the five-point deal. “The UCPN (Maoist) has spoilt the environment for consensus by asking the prime minister to reshuffle the cabinet,” reads the press statement issued by the NC.
The meeting also decided to hold talks with other political parties for implementation of the deal.
Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang has called the next meeting of parliament for Wednesday at 1 PM.
