KATHMANDU, Sept 8: UCPN (Maoist) has alleged that Nepali Congress (NC) was unwilling to reach a consensus to resolve the current political deadlock.

Talking to journalists covering the issues related to UCPN (Maoist) at the party´s headquarters in Paris Danda Saturday, Maoist Spokesperson Agni Sapkota alleged that through they were almost near agreement on all issues NC was avoiding the negotiations citing party´s internal functions. [break]

Sapkota said though there was an agreement to hold negotiation on daily basis to resolve all contentious issues by September 16, the talks among parties have not taken place since the past few days.

“Earlier, there was CWC meeting. Now all NC leaders have gone to the districts. This has given us the impression that NC is not willing to reach an agreement,” he said, adding that CPN-UML was willing to reach an agreement on the issues any time.

Sapkota said Maoists were ready on both the options - fresh election or the revival of the CA - to resolve the current political deadlock. “But NC seems unwilling because they fear the Maoists would sway the country´s politics no matter which option is taken,” he further said.

Adding that Maoists were also in favor of multi-ethnic identity-based federal state, Sapkota said that the parties were close to the 10-state federal model as proposed by State Restructuring Commission.

“There are two options -14 state model or the 10-state model - being discussed in the negotiations. We are close to a 10-state model federal state,” he said.

On the occasion, Sapkota also informed that the row over properties between the UCPN (Maoist) and breakaway faction led by Mohan Baidya was being resolved ´amicably´. He said that there has been an understanding to give the Baidya-led Maoist 29 percent of the party´s properties.
