Ethnic leaders from eight sister organizations, Central Working Committee (CWC) and former lawmakers on Saturday alleged the party had not heeded its demand put through an 11-point memorandum submitted to party President Sushil Koirala.[break]
"We indigenous nationalities have been humiliated by our own party as a CWC meeting did not discuss our memorandum, instead chosing to entertain party´s internal differences and power sharing," says a press statement signed by 29 ethnic NC leaders.
Stating that the party leaders fighting for federal provinces with ethnic identity were forced to decide on boycotting all the function of the party scheduled to be held across the country, the ethnic leaders have also appealed to all ethnic communities and other groups not to participate in the NC´s functions.
On June 6, the agitating ethnic leaders of the party had submitted the memorandum to Koirala. The ethnic leaders had participated in the June 8 mass rally of 28 parties at Khulla Manch in the capital after Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba verbally assured them to meet their demands.
Koirala had assured the party´s upcoming CWC meeting would discuss their demands in detail and make party´s official position on ethnicity-based federal provinces.
Those signing the joint statement issued on Saturday include former lawmakers Jip Chhiring Lama, Indra Bahadur Gurung, Sita Gurung, Harsha Jit Lama, Urmila Thapa Magar, Kumar Rai, Narendra Bikram Nembang, Dil Man Pakhrin and Nima Gyaljen Sherpa. Officer bearers´ and members of the party´s Nepal National Magar Associations, Nepal Tamang Association, Nepal Democratic Sherpa Association, Democratic Newa: Khala and Nepal Kirant Indigenous Nationalities Society.
