Issuing a press statement, the party has said, “The Nepali Congress strongly denounces the Maoists for carrying out extortions and demanding employment and shares in industries based in Hetauda Industrial Estate and other areas of Makwanpur.” [break]
NC has demanded that the UCPN (Maoist) immediately direct its cadres to stop such unlawful activities and punish those involved. The party has also asked industrialists and businessmen not to give in to Maoist threats and discourage unlawful activities being carried out by Maoist cadres.
Meanwhile, US ambassador to Nepal Scott H DeLisi during his meeting with Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kama Dahal Tuesday morning had raised the issue of Maoist putting the squeeze on industrialists. On the occasion, Chairman Dahal had said that the party had not exerted any such pressure on industrialists as reported in the media.
According to a press note posted on his personal website, Dahal had also assured that the party would find out the truth, reiterating that it was not the party´s official policy to exert undue pressure on businessmen and industrialists.
