The NC and its youth organization, Nepal Tarun Dal (NTD), had announced a strike since Wednesday. The administration bowed to political pressure after the NC and the NTD threatened to continue with their strike indefinitely.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Chuda Mani Sharma released the NC cadres after they deposited bail amount of Rs 60,000 each. With the release of all cadres, the NC and the NTD have called off their strike. The strike had affected normal life in two adjacent districts of Morang and Jhapa.
The NC cadres were arrested on the charge of opening fire at a group of the UML cadres led by Rupesh Bajgain almost two weeks ago reportedly at the behest of NC Itahari committee advisor Kaji Dahal.
Bajgain had defected from the NC early this year to join the UML.
A group of UML cadres led by Bajgain had opened fire at Dahal´s supporters later. An NC cadre was injured in the shootout. Bajgain has been absconding since the incident. Police have arrested Kiran Tamang, a close aide of Bajgain, in possession of weapons.
Bajgain is a close friend of Youth Force (YF) Morang district president Parshuram Basnet.
