KATHMANDU, Aug 23: Nepali Congress (NC) has asked its lawmakers not to leave the Kathmandu Valley for the next few days saying the parliament is likely to hold a vote soon to elect a new prime minister.

NC chief whip Laxman Ghimire issued such a directive to the lawmakers Tuesday. [break]

The deadline issued by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav for consensus government would expire Wednesday evening. If the parties fail to form a consensus government by that time, the president will ask the parliament to elect a prime minister through a majority vote.
