KATHMANDU, March 26: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has expressed strong reservation to the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led Probe Commission-2082 formed to investigate the incidents that occurred during the Gen Z Protest on September 8-9.
Noting that the probe report has mentioned the matters related to the judiciary going beyond the given scope of work in a condemnable manner, the NBA has called for an advisory committee meeting for 1:30 pm today.
"The report has come in a way that could negatively affect the judiciary and legal practitioners. We have a reservation for the report. It would be seriously discussed among the law practitioners," NBA general secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala told state-owned RSS.
All seven constitutional commissions remain ineffective
The report mentions issues such as eliminating anomalies including lawyers' exorbitant fees, and preventing justice from becoming a lawyer's paradise to make justice accessible.
"Ordinary people do not have access to justice; it is said that Nepali citizens are not in a position to easily access justice. For those having no money and access, justice has become a far cry. Lawyers who are supposed to advocate on behalf of a client are so expensive that even just drafting a simple petition can cost thousands," the report states.
