NATTA gets new exe committee

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Tourism entrepreneurs have asked the government to remove transport syndicate along major highways, stating that it was barring domestic tourists from boarding green-plated tourist buses.



Speaking at the 48th Annual General Meeting of Nepal Association of Tour and Travels Agents (NATTA) on Friday, NATTA President Arjun Prasad Sharma asked the government to make necessary amendment to Tourism Act so that domestic travelers can also be considered ´tourist´.[break]



Inaugurating the AGM, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista expressed commitment to expand fleet of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).



"The procurement process is already on track and we will soon add new aircraft,” he added.







The AGM elected Pabitra Kumar Karki as the new president of the association for a two-year term. Similarly, the meeting unanimously elected Madhusudan Acharya as first vice-president, Shumbu Pathak as second vice-president, Achyut Sharma Guragain as general secretary, Gokul KC as secretary and Santosh Gautam as Treasurer. It also elected nine executive members unopposed.



Meanwhile, correspondent of Nagarik daily Sushil Bhattarai has been awarded the NATTA Tourism Journalism Award 2011.



Hari Raj Joshi, editor of tourism bi-monthly Image Nepal, and News24 television were the other recipients of the award.
