National Poem Competition held

KATHMANDU, June 25: Nepal Academy, celebrating its 55th anniversary, organized a National Poem Fair on June 23, 2012.



Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Posta Bahadur Bogati, attended the program as the chief guest while many poets and personnel from Nepal Academy were also present.[break]



In the fair, the top 34 poems collected during the competition were read out and the top five poems were announced winners.



“Samayasanga Yuddha” by Thakur Belbase from Arghakhanchi scored the first position, winning a gold medal and Rs 15,000 as cash prize while “Munalai Maanpatra” by Jagat Navoditt bagged the second position and won a silver medal and Rs 10,000. Arjun Kumar Dhakal, Kamala Risal, and Tara Kumar Subedi held onto the third position, winning a bronze medal with Rs 5,000 each.







Nepal Academy has been organizing the National Poem Competition since 2022 BS (1965 and thereabouts) on an annual basis.



Most of the poems, this year were filled with patriotism.



Benju Sharma, program director at Nepal Academy, said, “A single poem with limited words has the power to express like a whole novel.”



A blood donation program and prize distribution to the staff of the Academy also took place during the event.
