Ministry begins probe into CDO-Customs standoff

BIRATNAGAR, July 8: The Finance and Home Ministries have deputed their representatives and started probing into the misbehaviour by Chief District Officer (CDO) against Biratnagar customs official following the closure of main customs check point.



Joint secretary at the Finance Ministry Shanta Raj Subedi and Joint Secreatry at Home Ministry Shanker Prasad Koirala have started necessary investigation into the incident by calling on Customs In-charge Mitra Lal Regmi, CDO Shashi Shekhar Shrestha, proprietor of Bishal Chemicals Industry, including employees of customs office and police administration. The customs office has been shut down from Thursday due to the protest programme saying that CDO Shrestha summoned Biratnagar Customs Officer Man Bahadur Poudel in the night, enquired and gave mental torture.



Customs Officer Poudel was enquired alleging him of giving remarks in the court against District Administration Office ignoring the code of employees after Bishal Chemicals filed case in Appellate Court against the padlocking in the industry on the directives of CDO.



Issuing a press release, professional organization of employees said they would not come back to work till action taken against CDO Shrestha for misbehaving customs official Poudel.



The agitation of customs employees has caused loss of customs revenue worth Rs. 10 million daily.
