Media campaign for peace, statute

KATHMANDU, March 31: Media organizations have decided to launch a pressure campaign for the timely conclusion of peace and constitution drafting process.



A joint meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Nepal Media Society, Television Broadcasters Nepal (TBN), Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB), Broadcasters Association of Nepal and Kathmandu Valley FM Radio Broadcasters Forum held in Kathmandu on Saturday took the decision.[break]



The media organizations will jointly exert pressure on the political parties to concluding the peace and constitution drafting process by the May 27 deadline in view of the Supreme Court ruling on Constituent Assembly (CA) term extension.







A joint statement issued after the meeting stated they have decided to launch the pressure campaign as there is still no certainty over timely conclusion of the peace and constitution drafting process.



Addressing the meeting, Chairman of Media Society Nepal Kailash Sirohiya said, “The leaders need to work round the clock to save the country from possible political and constitutional catastrophe. There is no other alternative other than drafting the new constitution by the May 27 deadline,” he said.



Addressing the function, FNJ Chairman Shiva Gaunle said the media would jointly exert pressure on the parties to deliver peace and constitution.
