Man freed after committing to pay ransom

LAHAN, Feb 2: An abducted real estate dealer has been released Wednesday afternoon after being forced to make a written commitment to pay ransom.



Hare Ram Das, 55, was abducted from his home in Lahan-1 immediately after he went to sleep. “A group of 10-2 armed men entered the house and thrashed son Ravi Lal, who was sleeping with me, when he tried to retaliate,” Das said. [break]



Das said the abductors tied his hands, got him blindfolded, made him walk for a while before getting him to sit on a bike. “They had a pistol trained at my temple and moved the bike in a circle before moving away,” he said.



“They asked me how much money I had after reaching Pato in Saptari. They then made me put my thumb print on papers after I said I had Rs 200,000 in bank,” he added.



They released him on condition of bringing the money within five days, Das claimed. “They released me near Rayapur in Saptari freeing my hands and eyes after getting me make a written commitment,” he said.



A police team sent for his search found Das and handed him over to wife Laxmi in the evening. Chief of Ward Police Office, Lahan Inspector Lal Dhwaj Subedi said search for the abductors is on.
