BIRGUNJ, July 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar has said all Madhes-based parties are doing groundwork to forge a single joint alliance of themselves.

“As the scheduled new elections have become a certainty, all Madhesi parties will participate in the polls (called for November 22 this year) as a single bloc,” Gachchhadar, also chairman of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic, said. [break]

Speaking at a program in Birgunj on Friday, he said the new constitution could not be promulgated on the set date due to a clash between the parties favoring a constitution with identity-based federalism and those opposing it.

Stating that there is no alternative to going in for fresh polls, Gachchhadar said, “The political parties should not escape from their duty (of opting for fresh mandate) as people’s opinion comes first in any democracy.”

“We are after consensus building,” he said, “and for that there could be talks on all options available.” He also asked both the sides—those willing to go for fresh Constituent Assembly polls and those, for new parliamentary elections—to exercise flexibility to give an outlet for the current political impasse.
