KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Hansraj Hulaschand Bajaj--a subsidiary of Golchha Organization--is planning to introduce Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen (KTM) Duke 390 in the domestic market by the end of May.

The new model of KTM bike is being introduced a year after the launch of KTM Duke 200, which the company claims is the only 200cc naked bike with real racing genes suitable for difficult terrain. [break]

“We are hopeful that KTM Duke 390, the upgraded version of KTM Duke 200, will enter the Nepali market by the end of May, as the bike is set to be launched in India within March,” said Joseph Sebastian, business head of KTM and Ninja bikes.

Austria-based KTM bikes are known all over the world as one of the best off-road motorcycles. KTM was also named as the most successful motorcycle manufacturer in the US and Europe in 2011.

The latest version of KTM bikes entering Nepal will be powered by a 373.2cc water-cooled single-cylinder Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) fuel-injected engine mated to a six-speed transmission.

The bike has high-tech components such as three-chamber silencer and ultra-light tubular space frame. The elegant light-alloy swing arm of the bike ensures maximum riding pleasure, powerful propulsion and dynamic cornering fun.

According to the company, the bike is expected to deliver 44PS of power at 9,500 rpm and 35Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm.

The off-road motorbike is almost similar to KTM Duke 200 and comes with front and rear disk brakes, mono-shock rear suspension, large-travel telescopic front suspension, alloy wheels, sporty graphics and body work, diamond shaped steel frame for rigid and strong structure, dual muffler exhaust, higher gear ratios for quick acceleration and a digital ignition system.

The company believes that the bike will be popular among youths, as they had responded positively to the launch of KTM Duke 200. “So far we have sold 250 units of KTM 200 bikes,” said Sebastian.

As the company received positive response from the market, it also raised the price of the bike with effect from 1 January.

“We have increased the price of KTM Duke 200 by Rs 20,000 per unit as the price of the bike went up by IRs 8,000 in the Indian market,” said Sebastian. With the hike, KTM Duke 200 now costs Rs 389,900.

Sebastian said the price of KTM Duke 390 is yet to be fixed but it is expected to cost around Rs 750,000 to Rs 800,000.
