KATHMANDU, March 11: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have agreed to form a taskforce under the Special Committee to suggest the modality of integration, rehabilitation packages and a calendar of plan of action for management of the Maoist combatants within five days.

In addition, the prime minister and the Maoist chairman also agreed to allow the secretariat under the Special Committee to recruit needed human resources to be deployed at cantonment sites and the secretariat office. [break]

According to Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Barsaman Pun, Khanal and Dahal reached an agreement to this effect during the meeting held to clarify misunderstanding over Thursday´s decision of the top leaders of the three major parties.

The misunderstanding occurred as the Maoists did not agree at the meeting Thursday evening to provide necessary human resources to the secretariat despite the top leaders´ go ahead. The Special Committee meeting slated for Friday morning was supposed to take a decision on the recruitment issue, but the meeting was postponed until further notice, as the prime minister and the Maoist chairman remained busy in consultations at Baluwatar to sort out differences.

The prime minister´s Press Advisor Surya Thapa told Republica that the prime minister and the Maoist chairman also agreed to bring a 50-day plan of action for integration and rehabilitation.

However, Pun, who was also present during the Friday´s meeting between Khanal and Dahal, said that no such agreement was reached.

The agreement between the prime minister and Dahal will have to be endorsed by the Special Committee.

Earlier, the secretariat during the Madhav Nepal´s -led government had proposed to the Special Committee to recruit 154 ex-army personnel for monitoring of the cantonments. But the plan was shelved as it lacked consent from the Maoists.

The Maoist had argued in the meetings of the Special Committee that ex-Indian armies can not be fully trusted with regard to monitoring the combantants.
