KATHMANDU, June 19: The rains, yes, seems to have arrived! A most awaited and welcome respite after the gruesome heat of the past few months, the rains are finally here.

No doubt everybody is longing for rain and cool breeze. But how desperate we really were![break]

Dinee Tamang, 26, an intern at Genesis Consultancy, says, “I was desperate because the heat was ruining my days. Everything was unbearable, from going to office in formal clothes, walking in the scorching sun to even sleeping. And the mosquitoes just added to my desperation. I was hoping for the wind that would bring the clouds and provide us with rain.”

Rain, rain and more rain, but somehow it doesn’t seem enough. We’ll sleep easier as long as the rain beats comfortably on our windowpanes and keeps the stifling heat at bay.

Through our Facebook pages, some readers also share their opinions. Deepesh Sigdel says, “I was waiting for the rain to decrease the heat. With rain comes more greenery too, and there’s always more fun to be had in the rain.”

Avaneesh says, “I can’t move nor go out anywhere now that I am bedridden after a recent operation. So for me, there’s no better treat to my eyes and ears.”

Praveen Bhusal is much more poetic. “I was waiting with so much excitement for the rain. T Gentle pleasing breezes washed away all my exhaustion of a weary and hot day. It would be more stimulating if the roads didn’t have potholes which spoil the fresh, green and contrasting beauty. Now that it’s here, I’m hoping for a dance in the showers.”

Yet there are some, like Yogesh Shrestha, 21, a student of Bachelor’s in Business Administration, who says, “Rains means less hours of load shedding. Rain is also a blessing for farmers. However, I hate it since I don’t like getting wet and the road becomes slippery, making travel difficult. Clothes also look dirty.”

But with the rains falling, we have reasons to forget the grievances it brings with it and simply revel in those that accompany it. So venture out in the rains, and whether you take your umbrella along or not is up to you.
