An SC meeting held at the International Convention Centre in New Bneshwor took a decision to this effect. The army integration process had remained stalled since the first week of last July.[break]
The meeting also decided to recognize combatants’ age based on their citizenship for integration. It however decided not to recognize their academic qualification earned after their verification by the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) for the integration purpose.
The integration of 3,123 combatants into the Nepal Army, which had begun on July 6 but stalled after three days due to controversy over the age of some combatants and academic qualifications, among other things.
Meanwhile, the meeting has also decided to grant a 45-day leave to the combatants after the completion of selection process before they start their trainings.
The controversy over the age of former combatants arose after the selection committees of the national army found some of ex-combatants were underage at the time of joining the Maoist army.
On Tuesday, the government had extended the tenure of the Special Committee by three months which had expired on August 16.
