Speaking at an interaction on "Toward Resilience Building of Mountain People and Local Governments" organized in the capital on Thursday, Kshetri said efforts to minimize the impacts of climate change at the local level was indispensable though much was discussed at the national and international level regarding the climate change. The NPC Vice-chairman said evaluation of effects of climate change should be assessed based on climate region not on geographical region.
Also speaking at the programme, lawmaker Prem Bahadur Tamang cautioned that if timely measures were not taken to minimize the possible disasters in mountainous and coastal areas, the situation could be dreadful.
Tamang added that organizations involved in development construction, planners and policy makers should be serious to this end.
Former Vice-chairman of NPC and chairman of Resources Himalaya Foundation Pitambar Sharma said that preparation of concrete policy on climate change and its implementation was not an easy job sans support of the political leadership and urged all to be sensitive to this issue.
Likewise, team leader of Nepal Climate Change Knowledge Management Center at National Academy of Science and Technology Dr Dinesh R. Bhuju stressed for extensive awareness raising campaign across the country regarding the climate change.
