HSC sign Ugandan striker Oryek

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: ´A´ division football club Himalayan Sherpa (HSC) signed yet another foreign player into their squad.



HSC, who had recently signed Tanzanian playmaker Castory D Mumbara, signed Ugandan striker Allan Oryek on Monday. "We received his international transfer certificate today (on Monday) and registered his name with All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)," said Karma Tshering Sherpa, the president of HSC.[break]



Oryek played for the Maroons FC of the Kampala region in Uganda. Oryek was also an important member of Makerere University Business School of Uganda in 2007.



"Oryek will play his official debut match for our club in the upcoming Aaha Gold Cup in Pokhara," said President Sherpa.



HSC is to take on ANFA U-19 on Wednesday in the first round of Aaha Gold Cup.



HSC, now, have 23 players in their squad.



Pandey upgraded to FIFA referee



FIFA, the supreme body of the world football, conferred FIFA Referee badge on Nepali referee Sudish Kumar Pandey on Monday on the recommendation of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).



Pandey received the badge after Dillip Rajak retired from the FIFA duty. ANFA has quotas to nominate four FIFA Referees and six FIFA Assistant Referees in men´s section.



Pandey, 28, aims to take up refereeing as his career and he has completed the AFC Project Future Course. He is a first batch referee of the two-year course conducted by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2007.



Meanwhile, FIFA conferred FIFA Assistant Referee badges on Padam Bahadur Bhujel and Nani Ram Thapa after Binod KC and Madusudan Khanal retired from the duty.



Likewise, Ashmita Manandhar and Srijana Bartaula also received FIFA Assistant Referee badges in women´s section. With the nomination of the two ladies, there will be four FIFA Women´s Assistant Referees in Nepal.



ANFA Vice-president Narendra Shrestha handed over the FIFA badges to the newly upgraded referees and assistant referees.



NNIPA supports boxer´s family







Nepal National and International Players´ Association (NNIPA) came forward to provide financial support to the family of boxer Raju Budhamagar, who sustained injury during a bout of Inter-municipality Nation-wide Boxing Tournament and died while undergoing treatment.



NNIPA handed over a check of Rs 50,000 to Nepal Boxing Association (NBA). NNIPA President Deepak Bista and Treasurer Kedarman Sthapit handed over the check to NBA President Rabiraj Thapa on Monday. NBA is to collect all the financial support and hand it over to the family.



Nobel, Xavier win



Nobel Academy and Xavier International won their respective matches on Monday in the girls´ category of the First Bagmati Modern Inter-college Basketball Tournament. Nobel defeated hosts Bagmati 25-19 while Xavier beat Whitehouse 21-16.



However, hosts Bagmati won their matches in boys´ section. Bagmati ´A´ eased past New Millennium 58-16 while Bagmati ´B´ struggled past AJ Wild 18-17. Likewise, Valley College pulled a 40-33 victory over TIA and Morgan beat Bridge Water International 46-35.



Campaign, KCMIT in semis



Campaign and Kathmandu College of Management and Information Technology (KCMIT) booked their berth in the semifinal of the Fifth Prime BBA Cup Boys Knockout Football Tournament on Monday.



Campaign hammered College of Applied Business (CAB) 4-2 at the Chyasal Football Ground, Lalitpur. Sanjay Gurung and Kenny Rai scored two goals each for Campaign while Gaurav Bista and Yoel Subba scored a goal each for CAB.



KCMIT defeated Kathford 2-1. Bibek Chaudhary scored for Kathford in the 12th minute but Sumin Bhattarai and Suraj Tamang scored during each half of the match for KCMIT to seal the match.



Hosts take Dharan in opener



The hosts Sahara Club, Pokhara will take on Dharan Football Club in the opening match of the 9th Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament on Tuesday to be held at Pokhara Stadium, Kaski.



Altogether 12 teams, including two from abroad--Denzong Boys, Sikkim, and Sahara UK--are competing in one of the prestigious football tournaments of the mofussil regions.



Nepal Police Club are the defending champions and Nepal Army Club are the runners up. The winners and the runners up will bag a purse of Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 along with trophies
