The association conferred ICT Business Excellence Award on Muni Bahadur Shakya of Hi-Tech Pioneer - a pioneering software company and Internet service provider (ISP). [break]
Shakya is the first micro computer developer of Nepal. Similarly, the association handed over ICT Best User in Public Sector award to Metropolitan Police Range Office for effectively using ICT applications, SMS and intranet to control crime, traffic violation and to maintain security in the capital. Similarly, it conferred ICT Best User in Private Sector award on Thamel.com - an online shopping portal, recognizing its service to the people.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav handed over the awards amid a function on Wednesday.
The recipients of the award were selected by a team comprising of Keshab Bhattarai, secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology; Abanindra Kumar Shrestha, secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications; Bimal Kumar Sharma, former president of CAN; and Mahohar Bhattarai, president of the now defunct High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT).
Speaking on the occasion, President Yadav expressed hop that the award would encourage ICT experts, private and public sector to contribute more for the development of ICT sector. “Science and technology can play a key role in development and make significant contribution to national economy,” he said, expressing commitment to prioritize the sector from the government level.
Minister of Science and Technology Kalpana Dhamala said the ministry should be strengthened to develop ICT sector.
CAN President Suresh K Karna said ICT professionals were failing to exploit their potential in the lack of proper management of the available resources.
CAN has been celebrating May 2 as National ICT days for the past four years.
