According to doctors, an increasing number of people suffering from high fever are flocking to hospitals and clinics here. The hospital has witnessed a surge in fever patients since July.
Nara Bahadur Bista of Rupandehi, Romikala Thapa of Arghakhanchi and Sabitri Joshi and Batula Paudel of Butwal died of high fever in Lumbini Zonal Hospital and Kul Bahadur Gaha of Nawalparasi and Reshmi Pal of Rupandehi succumbed to the illness in Universal Medical College in Bhairahawa. According to doctors involved in the treatment, most of those who died were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Those who came in early stages of illness have recovered.
Of the 500 patients admitted to the zonal hospital last week, more than a hundred were fever patients, according to hospital official Laxmi Raj Regmi. Twenty-eight of them were admitted to the hospital, while the rest received service in OPD. Similar is the condition in other hospitals and clinics. "It is the first time I have seen such a huge number of fever patients," said Sushil Kumar Shrivastav at the zonal hospital, who is involved in the medical profession here for the last 20 years.
