Gurung gets appointment letter

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: The Defense Ministry on Wednesday sent a formal letter to the Nepal Army on Wednesday confirming the appointment of Lieutenant General Chhatraman Singh Gurung as the acting army chief.



The cabinet issued the letter after the President´s Office endorsed the cabinet´s recommendation for Gurung´s appointment. The letter is signed by the Chief Secretary.



"Lt General Gurung has been appointed as the acting chief of army staff as per the provision of the Interim Constitution of Nepal," Brigadier General Ramindra Chhetri said.



Following the cabinet decision on August 9, the President´s Office and The PMO were involved in a row over the jurisdiction of the two offices in the appointment of the acting army chief.
