KATHMANDU, Nov 16: The government on Sunday formally invited Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) for talks on the latter´s nine-point demands, including reinstatement of Parmananda Jha to the post of vice president. [break]

Political sources said the talks could pave way for MPRF to join the current government. Even MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav told myrepublica.com last week that his party might consider joining the government if its demands submitted to the prime minister 15 days ago were addressed.

Prime minister´s Press Advisor Bishnu Rijal told myrepublica.com that the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers sent a formal letter to MPRF on Sunday afternoon, inviting the latter for a high-level meeting.

Co-chairman of MPRF JP Gupta said from Biratnagar that his party would form a talks team in a couple of days as he himself and party chairman Yadav are currently out of the capital.

MPRF, which split over the issue of joining this government in May and has been critical of the government ever since, has in recent time changed its stance to view the government, especially following Yadav´s week-long visit to India.

Prime Minister´s Chief Advisor Raghu Panta has already disclosed that the government has already initiated what he said formal and informal talks with MPRF for making the latter a coalition partner of the government.

But Gupta said the proposed talks had noting to do with joining the government. "The talks will focus on our demands."

Besides, reinstating the vice president, MPRF has demanded the government to ensure adequate representation of Madhesis in the ongoing recruitments in the police, enactment of social inclusion bill that ensures reservation for Madhesis in the army and political appointments.
