The meeting comes in the wake of Maoist cadre attacking cadre of other parties and announcing the launch of a fresh stir beginning November 1.

The meeting chaired by Home Minister Bhim Rawal was attended by the chiefs of the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department, Home Secretary Dr Gobinda Kusum and others. Representatives of the Defense Ministry and the Nepal Army were also present at the meeting.

Sources said the meeting discussed how to tackle the upcoming Maoist protests and the various armed groups operating in different parts of the country. “The meeting has decided to take stern action against those involved in unlawful activities,” said a source.

A statement issued by the Home Ministry said the meeting evaluated achievements under the newly-launched Special Security Plan and also held detailed discussions on the problems faced in course of its implementation.

The meeting concluded that the overall law and order situation in the country was on an improving trend.

The CSC meeting comes a day after Home Minister Rawal held parleys with his party CPN-UML, party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and the prime minister, at his official residence at Hariharbhawan, Lalitpur. The meeting had discussed in detail how to respond to Maoist attacks against rival party cadres.
