Govt help sought to revive hotel industry

KATHMANDU, June 10: Hoteliers have asked the government to resolve energy crisis at the earliest to save the industry from facing further loss.



Issuing a press statement after holding meeting with Pokhara based hoteliers, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) expressed serious concerns on power cuts and growing prices of petroleum products. [break]



“The hotel industry is in the state of crisis and if the situation prolongs, it will hit country´s economy,” the statement said. Shyam Sundar Lal Kakshpati, president of HAN said, the hotel industry was also suffering from strikes and labor unrest.



The association has also demanded that the government appoint chief executive officer at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) at the earliest.



“As the government has decided to recognize tourism industry as priority industry, we request the government to provide tax facility, bank loan at cheaper rates, subsidy in electricity tariff for the hotel industry through the upcoming budget," the statement added.
