Govt forms committee to probe Saptari killing

KATHMANDU, July 24: Government formed a four-member committee to investigate the police killing of a youth in Saptari in the wake of protest, Home Minister Bhim Rawal told the parliament on Friday.



The government has also decided to compensate the family of Akhilendra Yadav, 25, who was killed in a firing of Armed Police Force at Itahari Bishnupur on Friday.

The committee is headed by joint secretary Shankar Koirala.


The government also called back the district chief of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force which was a demand of an all-party struggle committee formed to protest the killing.


APF patrol had opened fire after locals at Itahari Bishnupur clashed with them over the seizure of chemical fertilizers imported illegally from a nearby Indian town. Yadav had died on the spot.
