Giri maintains lead

KATHMANDU, June 14: Samundra Giri could not continue his day-I performance but still managed to lead the Surya Nepal Central Open on the second day.



Giri carded one-over 73 on Tuesday at the Gokarna Golf Club in the second day of the third event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-12.[break]



After the completion of 36 holes, Giri has a total of six-under 138 and is one stroke ahead of Dharan´s Mani Rai. Rai played an even-par 72 today for a total of five-under 139.



Deepak Neupane and defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha are tied for the third position at four-under 140. Neupane shot three-under 69, while Shiva Ram carded of one-over 73 on Tuesday.



Surya Sharma, Rabi Khadka and Ramesh Adhikari shared the fifth position at two-under 142, while Sanjay Lama held the seventh position at even-par 144. Sharma added one-under 71 on Tuesday while Khadka played three-over 75 and Adhikari carded one-over 73. Lama shot three-over 75.



Ramesh Nagarkoti (72) and Ram Krishna Shrestha (75) shared the ninth position with the total score of 145.



Others who survived the cut at 11-over 155 included Rajan Thapa, Rupak Acharya, Deepak Thapa Magar, Ram Thapa, Deepak Acharya, Umesh Nagarkoti, Yelamber Singh Adhikari, Suman Rai, Pashupati Sharma and Krishna Man Rajbahak. The four pros, who missed the cut were Jaya Ram Shrestha, Dhana Thapa, Sachin Bhattarai and Dhruba KC.



In Amateur section, Tashi Tsering scored one-under 71 for a total of two-over 146. He is one-stroke ahead of overnight leader Bikash Bogati, who scored four-over 76.



Charlie Gurung, who scored three-over 75 for a total of 151 and Bhuwan Gurung, who shot second straight 76 for a total of 152 also made the cut in the four-man field.

The winning pro of the tournament will receive Rs 90,000 while runner-up will get Rs 57,000 as prize money.
