“One good thing that came out of working at the call center was that it helped me a lot to get over my shyness and to build confidence,” shares Puri.

Republica caught up with the happy-go-lucky Jasmine Puri and she shares more about her job and personal work experiences.

What do you like the most about what you do?

I’m an outgoing and outspoken person. I love the fact that I get to meet lots of people on my job. Also, I’m someone who can’t sit in front of a desk and do paperwork all the time. So this job suits my nature very well.

What are some of the challenges of your job?

Public relations as a job isn’t as easy as people take it. The main challenge is not to build contacts but to maintain the relationship with the clients. Also, things aren’t really professional in Nepal. Some people struggle with separating their professional life from their personal and it gets difficult sometimes. Otherwise, no complaints as such!

Some characteristic traits which are important for people in this field?

One must be outgoing and should love to meet new people. S/he should also be comfortable with talking to strangers, sometimes for hours, and should know how to communicate with people from all levels. The main masala here is, of course, how you talk, and that you don’t intimidate the other person.

Do you have suggestions for those entering the job market?

I think, compared to when I started, there are a lot of chances for employment today. Working can be very exciting but I would suggest people to finish their studies first and then start working. Completing their studies should be a priority; there will always be opportunities for work.

What’s an ideal workplace for you?

People in most organizations are still not willing when it comes to taking orders from a lady. I want to change this. For me, an ideal workplace will be determined by its work environment. It doesn’t have to be a big company. Pay and post matter but I place the most importance on work environment. If I can’t survive one day in that place, then it’s not worth it for me.
