BANEPA (KAVRE), SEPT 30: The sole tourism information centre established with the objective of providing reliable information to tourists visiting the district has been shut down due to financial problem.[break]

The centre has been shut down after local authorities stopped providing budget to the centre for the last couple of years. Kavre District Development Committee (DDC) and Dhulikhel Municipality had jointly established the centre some five years back keeping in view the growing need of catering authentic travel information to the tourists.

“Both the local agencies have stopped providing budget to the center, forgetting their commitments of providing continued support to run the center,” said Udaya Bhusan, director of the center. “We only have a meager amount contributed by local Rotarians to run the center.”

Bhusan also alleged that a mechanism set up by political parties in DDC and Dhulikhel municipality after the people´s movement in 2006 had stopped the funding. He also complained that even the Regional Hotel Association was not lending its helping hands to run the center which had been playing a significant role in providing proper information to tourists.

The association had pledged to contribute the remuneration of a staffer employed at the center. The center shifted its office furniture to Dhulikhel Chamber of Commerce and Industries last year.

Dhulikhel, Panauti, Namobuddha, Palanchowk and Timal are the major tourist attractions in Kavre, which is one of the nearest tourist destinations from the capital. Bhusan said the centre should be properly run to provide tourists with better information about geographical, religious, cultural and historical significance of the district.
