Foreigner accuses hotel owner of rape

KATHMANDU, March 9: An American woman has accused the owner of a hotel in the capital, where she had been staying with a friend, of raping her Monday night.



Police arrested Kamal Kusma Tharu, 29, of Bardiya, acting on her complaint.



According to the 29-year-old from Colorado of the US, Kamal had raped her after she was drunk. [break]



The woman, leaving Pun Hill Hotel at Chhetrapati early Tuesday morning, had contacted the US Embassy in Kathmandu which took up the case and informed Metropolitan Police Sector Lainchour about the complaint, officials said.



Tharu has been remanded by the Kathmandu District Court for investigation. The woman, who was reportedly teaching in South Korea, had arrived in Nepal on February 25 with a woman companion.



After staying in the hotel for two days, the two tourists went to Pokhara city and returned on Monday.
