FNJ marks 56th establishment day

KATHMANDU, March 30:  A morning rally was organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning to mark the 56th establishment day of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organization of more than 10,000 journalists of Nepal.



The rally that started from Bhrikutimundap went around Bhadrakali, Martyr´s Gate, New Road and Ratna Park and converged into a mass gathering in the same place.[break]



Present in the rally were civil society leaders, human rights activists, representatives of political parties, legal practitioners and media workers.



Various speakers on the occasion stressed that the FNJ should constantly show interest and concern on the democratic process since it is the lead civil society organization.



Underlining that the journalists should use their pen in favour of human rights, press freedom, peace and constitution, they asked the FNJ to come up with vibrantly for the professional and physical safety of working journalists.



Media professionals should also be cautious even more than the political parties in the drafting of democratic constitution, they added.



Speaking on the occasion were FNJ Chairperson Dharmendra Jha, CA member Shovakar Parajuli, Nepal Bar Association Chairperson Prem Bahadur Khadka, former chair of Nepal Medical Association Dr. Kedar Narsingh KC, human rights activists, Purswottam Dahal, Charan Prasain and Sudip Pathak, FNJ former chairs, Bishnu Nisthuri and Suresh Acharya, Chair of Minimum Wage Fixation Committee Mahendra Bista, SAFMA chair Shiva Gaunle and Nepal Press Union (NPU) chairperson Kiran Pokharel.



The FNJ is organizing tea reception and handing over of award to senior journalist this afternoon on the occasion of its inception.
