BUTWAL, Aug 5: Five hospitals in Rupendehi are running without following procedures laid down by the government. Unified Public Hospital in Basgadi, Paroha Model Hospital in Murgiyama, Health Care Center Hospital in Farsatikar, Bairabha Hospital Pvt Ltd and CT Hospital in Siddarthanagar are among the health care institutions that have not completed the routine government procedure.

Even though these hospitals have registered themselves with the Department of Industry, they have not got permission from the Ministry of Health and Department of Health Services which is mandatory as per the rule of the Western Regional Directorate.[break]

The Public Health Office claims to have repeatedly asked the institutions to obtain necessary permissions from the Ministry of Health and Department of Health Services. Chief District Officer of Rupendehi Laxman Thapa informed that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and action will be taken against the erring hospitals.

Apart from the formal permission, these hospitals have not adhered to the set standards and do not have the required infrastructure either. They have been found to be functioning in houses with shutters and have rooms without windows.

The hospitals have been regularly advertising in local media and even have billboards that claim to provide services round the clock. Although doctors are available during mornings and evening, they are called to the hospital if a patient comes up for a check-up at other times during the day.

The hospitals have also been using names of Bairabha´s Universal Medical College and Butwal´s Siddartha Child and Women Hospital to attract patients.

However, Dr Ajay Sribastab, manager of Bairabha Hospital, claimed the hospital has met all the required standards and procedures of the government and said that the hospital has been communicating with the Department of Health Services to get the approval.
