Three persons died on the spot and seven were injured when a bus and truck collided at Lalbandi, Sarlahi along the East-West Highway in Thursday morning. [break]
The dead have been identified as Sanjita Tandukar, 30, of Kathmandu, her eight-year-old son Krishna and Pradeep Magar of Dhanusha. Three of the injured passengers have been taken to Bharatpur for further treatment while the rest have been discharged following primary treatment. Area Police Office, Ishwarpur has taken both the drivers under control.
Similarly Ram Lal Aryal, 42, of Damak-1, Jhapa died on the spot when a bus going to Kakarbhitta from Kathmandu turned turtle at Birendra Bazar, Dhanusha along the East-West Highway at 5:30 in the morning. Bina Pradhan and Tilak Tamang of Kakarbhitta-10, Padma Darlami of Asanpur, Siraha, Simon Bhushal and Kopila Bhandari of Urlabari, Morang, Devi Prasad Aryal of Damak and Ram Kumar Raut of Bhardaha have been critically injured in the accident.
The passengers claimed that the speeding bus (Na 3 Kha 2130) turned turtle after the driver dozed off while driving but the driver claimed the accident occurred after a front tire punctured. The body of bus, however, remains unscathed despite the accident.
Meanwhile, driver Gokul Thapa and help have been seriously injured when a truck (Na 3 Kha 5980) capsized at the Godar section of the highway.
Likewise a man has been killed when a bus (Ga 1 Kha 2069) going to Pokhara from Sunauli hit a cyclist at Shankar Nagar, Rupandehi in the morning, according to our Butwal correspondent. Ram Bilas Kohar of Sunauli, India, who was earning his livelihood by painting houses in Butwal for the past few years, died on the spot.
The bus which also hit a motorcycle (Lu 6 Pa 5787) during the accident is under control of the Area Police Office, Butwal while motorcyclist Moti Lal Pandey is receiving treatment at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
